Appointment to the Australian Competition Tribunal

The Coalition Government is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Caron Beaton-Wells as a lay member of the Australian Competition Tribunal for a period of five years.

Professor Beaton-Wells brings extensive experience to the role as Director of the Competition Law and Economics Network and the Global Competition and Consumer Law Program at the University of Melbourne.

Professor Beaton-Wells has a Master of Laws and Doctorate of Philosophy and was a member of the Victorian Bar between 1997 and 2016.

The Tribunal is an independent statutory body that hears applications to review authorisation decisions made by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and decisions of the Minister or the ACCC on access to nationally significant monopoly infrastructure under the National Access Regime in the Competition and Consumer Act 2010.

The Government congratulations Professor Beaton-Wells on her appointment and looks forward to the significant contribution she will make to the important work of the Tribunal.
